Game Review – The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
In 2006, Oblivion was awarded Spike TV VGA’s Game of the Year. Which is fair enough. Because all in all Oblivion really is a great medieval action rpg, with an amazing story line where you can do just about everything. There are plenty of quests for players to complete as they advance through the game. With over 1,000 different essential characters in the game, the player is most surely not going to get bored of seeing the same kind of character with the same kind of character structure.

Overall, the game play is pretty damn good, considering the amount of space the player can travel in and the instant loading of each area is a good addition to the pros of Oblivion. The graphics are also at an awesome standard, and even better on HD on the XBox 360, so if you’ve got a HD/HDMI compatable TV and XBox 360 Handy, jump over to the store and purchase yourself a HD AV Cable. And because of how the game is structured programmatically, it’s pretty quick to render the different things within the game, whether it be creatures, characters, armour, and weapons.

Oblivion XBox 360 Gameplay
In Specifics, the combat side of things is well done in my opinion, in that the player can move and swing his/her weapon, enabling the player to begin swinging their weapon at a safe distance away from his/her enemy and then move back away from the enemy.

And even shielding from an opponent is quite interesting, because you have to time your opponents strike in order to block it successfully. Too soon, and you could be dazed and/or knocked back. Too late, and you could take damage and quite possibly die. Even if you drop your shield too quickly, you can take damage and die. Too late and you could be precious time you could be lunging at your opponent.

Not only is the gameplay good, but there’s a lot of extra content available for Oblivion such as, mods and skins.
